CASA MANZANILLO

Situated only a few miles from the coast in Manzanillo, Costa Rica, the residence was designed to serve as a place of respite for a young artisan family for six months of the year. Prioritizing a seamless connection to the landscape, the site celebrates the tropical setting through a design that is both timeless and authentic. The phased master plan—developed in two parts to accommodate programs across two adjacent lots of varying topographies—provides episodic movement across the site, while supporting programs such as reflection, restoration, playfulness, and growth. The circulation across the sites upholds tranquility by diverting vehicles from the entrance and creating areas of interest and reflection through a string of gardens, with special moments sprinkled in between.
