By leveraging site configuration, water elements, and native plantings, a smaller residential garden space is transformed into a private area fit for leisure and entertainment.

The landscape for this existing one-story California residence maximizes functional garden spaces, reinforces visual and physical connections to the home’s interior, and establishes a drought-tolerant native planting palette. 

The project includes a large swimming pool at the far end of the property, which extends nearly the entire length of the rear garden. Located at the edge of the site’s rear setback, the pool doubles as a reflective surface, increasing the perceived size of the limited space. This configuration allowed for the installation of a large hardscape area, as well as a fire-pit lounge space. For the purposes of privacy, decoration, and drought-tolerance, native plantings were placed at the property edge to create a peaceful, unified garden space.
